Correlation

The technique of correlation is used to find and pin-point the leak in a water distribution network.

Leak Location

If two acoustic sensors are attached at different locations on a pipe with a leak. The leak sound will take longer to reach the sensor furthest away from the leak. This is known as the Time Delay or ∆t. Utilising the time delay and other information such as pipe diameter, pipe material and length between the two sensors the exact leak position can be indicated by the Eureka or Enigma correlator.
